Transportation
Highways: Knox County is served by two federal highways: U.S. Highway 41, and U.S. Highway 50. U.S. Highway 41 is a major four-lane thoroughfare running north-south through the county, passing Vincennes with three local interchanges. U.S. Highway 50, an east-west route, is a four-lane highway all across Knox County. The proposed I-69 extension from Indianapolis to Evansville will link into highway 50 in Daviess County. Travel times to Interstate highways are 35 minutes south (I-64) and 45 minutes north (I-70) via U.S. Highway 41; I-57 is 90 minutes travel time west via U.S. Highway 50. Knox County also has two major State highways, Highway 67 serves as a major artery to the northern section of Knox County and provids a direct link to our state's capital. Highway 61 services the southeast section of the county and gives Knox County a link to Pike County
Rail: Vincennes is located at the intersection of two main lines of the CSX Railroad system. A north-south line serves points including Nashville, Tennessee, and Chicago, Illinois; An east-west line serves points including Cinnati, Ohio and St. Louis, Missouri. Intermodal service is available from Chicago.

Airports: Air service to the Knox County area is available from the Mid-American Air Center located 8 miles west near Lawrenceville, IL, with both charter and air taxi service available. Mid-American Air Center features two 5,200-foot runways, industrial development sties, and a Foreign Trade Zone designation. Businesses not located on the site of the foreign trade zone may apply for sub-zone designation. Full commercial air service is available from Evansville Regional Airport, located 45 miles south of Vincennes. Indianapolis International Airport is located 100 miles northeast, and is accessible via U.S. Highway 41 (4-lane) and Interstate Highway 70.
Water Transportation: Port facilities are available at the Southwind Maritime Centre, located on the Ohio River at Mt. Vernon, Indiana, 70 highway miles southwest of Vincennes. This facility is accessible by rail, and by four-lane highway from Vincennes. |
